Chris Mortensen of ESPN is reporting that the Falcons are in talks with former Jags QB Byron Leftwich, about potentially bringing him to the team to….be the third string QB. I understand that Petrino has a fairly complicated offense and everything, but right now the Falcons are 0-2, Joey Harrington has a QB rating of 74.1 and he’s already been sacked 13 times (no, this isn’t all because of the offensive line…in that game against Jacksonville, Harrington was holding onto the ball way too long at times).
I know that if the Falcons sign Leftwich he will need time to learn the playbook, but I hope that, if he’s signed, he will get some reps with the 1st string offense. Being named the 3rd string QB implies always seems to imply that the QB will be working with the 2nd and 3rd string offenses, and Leftwich, if the plan is to have him play anytime soon, will need to start developing a rhythm with the Falcons wide receivers (haha! who am i kidding, i just mean Alge Crumpler) if the Falcons offense is to have any success this year, sans Joey Harrington.
As mentioned previously, Byron Leftwich’s agent is Tom Condon of Creative Artists Agency.

Leftwich is a whole lot better option then Joey Harrington.. Only if Leftwich can stay healthy.. that should be the number 1 question on Atlanta’s mind at this point..
wasnt his immobility and the sacks one of the problems many people in jacksonville had with him? doesnt sound like a solution if he has the same problems as harrington.
not that i am defending harrington – just questioning the move
I think just in terms of ability, Leftwich is more talented. He’s as slow, if not slower, but i also think he makes quicker decisions, which is a step above what Harrington was doing on Sunday…he’s was getting sacked because he was afraid to throw interceptions.
I think Harrington suffers from the same problem that David Carr does.. He spent to long behind a bad line.. and is affraid of being sacked.. rather then going thru is progressions
Leftwich is certainly not the answer in Atlanta, but what other options do they have? The best QB they had last year is on the Texans’ roster now…
Would Atlanta be a playoff calibur team with Matt Schuab? I think so..
the only way atlanta would be a playoff team with matt schuab would be if they played in the nfc south…oh wait
i guess they would
