Chris Mortensen of ESPN is reporting that the Falcons are in talks with former Jags QB Byron Leftwich, about potentially bringing him to the team to….be the third string QB. I understand that Petrino has a fairly complicated offense and everything, but right now the Falcons are 0-2, Joey Harrington has a QB rating of 74.1 and he’s already been sacked 13 times (no, this isn’t all because of the offensive line…in that game against Jacksonville, Harrington was holding onto the ball way too long at times).

I know that if the Falcons sign Leftwich he will need time to learn the playbook, but I hope that, if he’s signed, he will get some reps with the 1st string offense. Being named the 3rd string QB implies always seems to imply that the QB will be working with the 2nd and 3rd string offenses, and Leftwich, if the plan is to have him play anytime soon, will need to start developing a rhythm with the Falcons wide receivers (haha! who am i kidding, i just mean Alge Crumpler) if the Falcons offense is to have any success this year, sans Joey Harrington.

As mentioned previously, Byron Leftwich’s agent is Tom Condon of Creative Artists Agency.
