This is definitely not a blog for breaking news, but I happened to be up watching Sports Center, and I figured I’d pass it along.
Peter Abraham of the Journal News is reporting Joe Torre will be named as the Dodgers new manager within the next 36 to 48 hours. Don Mattingly, Torre’s bench coach with the Yankees, will apparently be going with Torre to Los Angeles after he declined to stay with the Yankees organization after the Yankees offered the head coaching job to Joe Girardi.
Pretty crazy. Just a couple of days ago, everyone was hinting that Mattingly would be the new Yankees coach, and Girardi would be headed to Los Angeles. Then, today when Girardi was offered the head coaching job, Mattingly was effectively put into limbo. Now though, it looks like he’ll have a new home out west. Where does Grady Little, the previous Dodgers coach, go now? Don’t really know. Baseball’s off-season has been pretty interesting…and the world series only ended yesterday.

You got that right: the off-season has been interesting. Now watch the rest of this winter be a dud as we’re left with hardly anything to ponder on except prognostications, prognostications, prognostications. All set for 2008.
I know a lot of Yankees fans that are shaking and rolling around right now with the bundle of news they’ve stuck their ear out to listen to. New manager, another new guy on the bench, how about ol’ A-Rod?
I don’t know about you, but I love this move by Torre. A change of scenery, faaaaaaaaar away from New York, and maybe he’ll enjoy wearing a lighter blue above his head with a Dodgers hat.
2008 will be no less than interesting.
Love the idea of Torre with the Dodgers. This will break up the Yankees-Red Sox stranglehold on the media’s attention and…who knows…might even bring some pizazz back to the National League? The Yankees are doomed…aging pitching staff, a new unproven manager who appears to be 180 degrees from Torre, superstars headed for the door…Yankee-haters rejoice!
I also love the Torre move.. He is a class act, and stand up guy.. Im glad to see he stood up the the antichrist and said take your peanuts offer and shove it! I wonder if ARod knew he was leaving? I wonder if Torre has something up his sleeve.. If Torre and ARod end up in LA.. Oh how that would be the one two punch to the Yankees!!!
