The friendly confines just became a little less friendly for lovers of the iPad.
The security at Yankee stadium have banned the usage of iPads in the stadium, and as such patrons will not be permitted to bring one with them into the stadium. According to the Yankees, the iPad apparently falls under the category of a laptop, and the Yankees already have a “no-laptop security policy” in place.
For those of you wondering how we’d even get to this point anyway…
The discussion surrounding the ban was spurred from a message by poster Spacekatgal on the IGN Boards. Spacekatgal tried to bring her iPad in to the Yankee/Red Sox game, only to be turned away at the gate. Undeterred, she did re-enter the stadium with her iPad in her jacket — but the ban exists all the same. (via Mashable)

While I can’t quite figure out why you would need to bring your iPad to an MLB game, unless your an announcer who has moved into the digital age instead of relying on paper stats, it is interesting that the iPad is categorized as a laptop at Yankee stadium, but not at an airport.
Unlike your laptop, which the Transportation Security Administration requests you take out and place in a separate bin during airport security screening, Apple’s new tablet is apparently deemed small and thin enough to not warrant a separate check. In a statement issued by the agency, they relayed that you won’t need to remove your iPad from your bag unless specifically requested to do so. (via Mashable)
Its weird, but I remember a time when people went to baseball games to actually watch baseball. I know its crazy.
On the other hand, Yankee Stadium probably did invite the usage of cutting edge technology by adding wi-fi accessibility throughout the stadium…so you figure it out.
