When new Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III looks into the stands this season, he’s going to see a lot of people wearing his jersey.
The Redskins, one of the NFL’s most passionate and long-suffering fan bases have put RG3 atop the May jersey sales list according to a report by Dan Steinberg at the DC Sports Bog and NFLShop.com sales figures. In an even greater showing to the support and interest being drummed up by the rookie QB is the fact that he ranked third in sales figures from April 1 to May 28th, behind Peyton Manning and Tim Tebow.
You couldn’t buy an RG3 jersey, or any rookie jersey for that matter, until April 26th.
Of course, as Steinberg points out, this isn’t the first time that Redskins fans jumped on the new jersey bandwagon — Donovan McNabb had the second highest selling jersey after he was traded to the Redskins — but, for a team that still has one of the larger, more passionate fan bases in the NFL, and is dying for a team that contends, there are certainly worse things one could do than invest in RG3 stock…or jerseys.
