Just when you thought NBC couldn’t add anything to their Olympic coverage…Shazam!

NBC Olympics and media discover company, Shazam are teaming up to provide viewers of the 2012 London Olympics with even more unique coverage and access. Viewers watching the Olympics on one of NBCUniversal’s various media properties — NBC, NBC Sports, MSNBC, Bravo and CNBC — will also have the ability to use the Shazam App on their smart phone for more Olympic extras.

“Our collaboration with NBC around the London Games marks an exciting milestone for Shazam for TV™,” said Shazam CEO, Andrew Fisher. “As the leader in second-screen interactive television, we’re proud to work with NBC to make their coverage of the London 2012 Summer Olympics an even more engaging and interactive social experience.

Included in the extras are in-depth coverage on various Olympic athletes, the sharing of social media via Twitter and Facebook, and the obligatory up-to-the-minute results and medal information.

Since receiving an additional $30M+ in funding last summer, there has been a lot of talk of Shazam expanding its footprint into the world of television. There have already been a few less prominent successes, with Shazam’s app being featured in Old Navy commercials and the Disney Christmas Parade. But, with NBC covering every Olympic event (3500+ hours of Olympic coverage) either online or on their multiple networks, the opportunities for Shazam to succeed has been increased exponentially.

The 2012 Summer Olympics will take place in London this July 27th through August 12th, on NBC.
