If you are one of those people who bought a shiny new iPhone 5, or just updated your old iPhone to the newest operating system, then StubHub has just given you one more way to use your smart phone. The company, which touts itself as the world’s largest ticket market place, has partnered with the University of North Carolina to integrate UNC into Apple’s Passbook app.
The integration will allow Tar Heels fans the ability to store athletic tickets purchased on StubHub in the Passbook app, thereby enabling consumers to use their iPhone or iPod touch as their ticket into events. Passbook goes live at UNC on October 27th.
“StubHub is laser-focused on providing fans with an innovative, best-in-class experience across all platforms; integrating with Apple Passbook is a huge step forward for the future of live events,” said Ray Elias, Chief Marketing Officer at StubHub. “Through this integration with University of North Carolina and Apple Passbook, we can provide fans with a true end-to-end experience — from event discovery, to ticket access, all the way through mobile entry — via their mobile devices.”
StubHub has done their best to stay on the cutting edge of ticket technology, having already partnered with UNC and Paciolan to allow barcode ticketing on mobile platforms for UNC fans, and now they’re taking that a step further with the Passbook integration — allowing consumers to keep UNC tickets and other passes all in one place.
“The University is excited to expand our mobile ticketing platform through our partnerships with Stubhub and Paciolan,” said Bubba Cunningham, University of North Carolina’s Athletic Director. “This mobile delivery option will allow Tar Heel fans to purchase, store, and redeem tickets to our events in a truly seamless process.”
StubHub is also working with three other schools on this Passbook initiative, and the company has plans to roll it out to their 60+ partners in the near future. The StubHub app is currently available for free on the Apple AppStore.
