After a season which saw the Orioles return to prominence, the team has decided to change their ticket providers. The team, which had long worked with Ticketmaster to provide tickets for Orioles fans will switch its allegiance to Tickets.com for the 2013 season, according to the Baltimore Business Journal.
The move shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise: Tickets.com was purchased by Major League Baseball’s advanced media arm (MLBAM) back in 2005. The California-based ticketing company already handles ticket operations for numerous teams including the San Francisco Giants, Boston Red Sox and Texas Rangers. It is expected that every team will switch over to Tickets.com once their current Ticketmaster contracts expire.
The Orioles ranked 20th in attendance for the 2012 season, bringing in 2.1 million fans to Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Due to their impressive 93-69 record, they surpassed 2011’s attendance total by more than 350,000 fans.
