The NBA…its where Spanish happens.
In a move which almost seems long overdue, due to the increasingly Hispanic population in America, the NBA is going back to its Spanish roots…well, if it had Spanish roots.
The league will launch a marketing campaign on Monday called enebea – the Spanish pronunciation of NBA. Featuring increased TV and internet exposure, plus community projects, the NBA hopes expand its reach among a demographic that makes up 15 percent of its fan base.
The NBA on Sunday staged its 18th game in Mexico, most of any country besides the United States and Canada, when Philadelphia and Phoenix met in Monterrey. NBA TV broadcast the game in Spanish for the first time.
A Spanish-language Web site (www.nba.com/enebea) will include news and features on Hispanic players, and the league plans events to renovate basketball courts in Hispanic neighborhoods.
“With Hispanics comprising such a large percentage of our fan base, we have a responsibility to connect with them in meaningful ways,” NBA senior director of U.S. Hispanic marketing Saskia Sorrosa said in a statement. (via Are You Watching This)
Great move…and like I said, long overdue. As I’ve mentioned before, I think, if you can find a market that will sustain a team’s existence, that Mexico is the perfect place for NBA expansion; there is no travel concerns like there would be with a European team, no old basketball federations already in place, etc.
And while I agree, you probably don’t initially have the fan base in Mexico that you would have in China or Europe, you could essentially work two fan bases, as a larger focus on the Hispanic population would hopefully generate interest among Mexicans and Mexican-Americans. The Enebea seems like the perfect building block to start the idea of expansion.
Reaching out to meet the needs of 15% of your fan base is never a bad idea either.

If there would be a decrease for the players, it might have great impact on them and their performances is at stake. I hope that the passion would still be there.
Regarding the declared lost, there might something wrong. But i still don’t want to judge. Lets just hope that this will be settled and hope that the life of NBA will still remain.
