Atlanta Fans: Waive goodbye to Andruw Jones!
Dave O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal Constitution is reporting that Andruw Jones has played his last game for the Atlanta Braves. Why? because it appears that Jones is asking for a contract that was/is somewhere in the range of $20 million a year for 7 years (Jones’ previous contract was a 6 year $75 million dollar contract that he signed early in 2002).
Wow. Does anyone remember in April when everyone was reporting that Jones was about to have a career year (I do, because I drafted him in fantasy baseball because of it)? His final numbers for the year? .222 26HR 94RBI…in a contract year. Lets review the normal “contract year” equation…
Contract Year + A year full of very good statistics = Beaucoup bucks, and a new contract.
Hmm…I think Andruw Jones is missing part of the equation. Why will he still get close to those contract numbers that he wants? Well, his agent is Scott Boras, and I’m not willing to put anything past him (actually I look for a price cut here…maybe 16 or 17 million a year, but still, how many people can get that money when they hit .222 the year before)?
So, where will Andruw Jones end up? Maybe the Mets could find a place for him? I think that’d be pretty interesting.
As I mentioned earlier, Andruw Jones is represented by Scott Boras. He is the head of the Scott Boras Corporation, whose website is located here. Scott Boras sure is going to have a busy summer, lets not forget, he also represents Alex Rodriguez.
