I wish I was your agent: Hope Solo edition.

| September 18, 2007 More

I’ve decided to start a new feature on the blog called “I wish I was your agent”. Basically this section looks to highlight some of the great athletes in the world…athletes who, I wish i represented.

The first athlete I wanted to cover is the goalie for the women’s U.S. Soccer team, Hope Solo. There is a lot of information out there about her, so i’ve decided to give some of the more pertinent information in link form, so everyone can pick and choose what they want to read.

Why do I like Hope Solo? well, she’s arguably the greatest female goaltender in the world right now, she’s over-competitive to the point of being scary (there’s nothing wrong with wanting to win, right?), she’s related to Han Solo (maybe?), and she looks like this.

Hope Solo

Honestly…watch the World Cup. Unlike the men’s world cup, the USA is actually favored to win (we’ve advanced out of the first group already, and it was called the death group because of the competition).

Here’s some fan’s video montage of Hope in action.

I’m not really sure of Hope Solo’s agent, but, when I searched FIFA’s page, i found a listing of agents for the whole team. That list can be found here.

As a side note, I think Nike is doing a pretty good job marketing the Women’s World Cup team. The different commercials they have with Dwight from the Office (Rainn Wilson, i think?) are pretty good, and their slogan, “the best team you’ve never heard of” is pretty catchy, if not very, very true.

And here are the news links…

Sorry to burst your bubble but I believe us Canadians are going to give the elite teams a run for their money at the WWC, especially USA.

I always love those matches between these two teams. Very physical and emotional. Great soccer.

I certainly would give the Women’s World Cup a view if it wasn’t happening at the start of the football seasons, the pennant races winding down, colleges and schools back in session, etc. I just think its hideously bad timing for us in the States to have this event occuring in mid-September at five o’clock in the morning. Would have it been too much to ask it be held a month earlier, for example? I think more folks would have gotten into it here in the U.S. if it was moved back to the summertime…even late spring. I realize the world doesn’t necessarily revolve around America, but there’s really no point in expecting any kind of ratings for these games here because of the time of year. I totally agree the Nike campaign is a winner…once again, Nike can’t be thrilled with the timing of the event either.
