JetBlue Airways (Nasdaq: JBLU), UT Athletics’ Official Airline Sponsor, today announces the addition of special ‘Hook ‘Em Shuttles’ to accommodate the rush of Texas fans seeking nonstop service to the Pasadena area following this weekend’s win. The value airline already offers one nonstop daily flight to L.A./Long Beach from Austin Bergstrom International Airport.

The airline, best known for giving customers more free live entertainment on personal seatback TVs, more comfort with leather seats and spacious legroom, more free snacks and drinks and more friendly customer service, will operate additional nonstop flights between Austin and Long Beach on Wednesday, Jan. 6 and Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010.

Hook ‘Em Shuttle schedules:

  • Long Beach to Austin: Wednesday, Jan. 6, 6:50 a.m. – 11:42 a.m.
  • Austin to Long Beach: Wednesday, Jan. 6, 12:30 p.m. – 1:49 p.m.
  • Long Beach to Austin: Saturday, Jan. 9, 1:55 p.m. – 6:45 p.m.
  • Austin to Long Beach: Saturday, Jan. 9, 7:30 p.m. – 8:50 p.m.

JetBlue serves six cities nonstop from Austin, including: Boston; Fort Lauderdale; L.A./Long Beach; Orlando; New York/JFK; and San Francisco. Connecting service is also available to 16 destinations to and from Austin.

Its great that Jet Blue is offering non-stop flights for Texas fans, especially in lieu of the fact that Texas is in the national championship, but maybe they’re missing out on not doing some direct promotion in the Florida area?  Lets not forget that American, Delta, Northwest, and United are charging passengers an extra $50 for traveling out of the three south Florida airports on the Monday after the National Championship Game.  With JetBlue already flying nonstop to Fort Lauderdale, maybe that market is ripe for the taking during the February 5th weekend as well?
