Kevin Durant loves Gatorade

| October 3, 2007 More

Gatorade is making some big moves in the world of endorsements. As I mentioned previously, they were already in talks with Tiger Woods to endorse the product, and now, according to CNN Money, has signed the man who will probably be the 2007 NBA rookie of the year, Sonics Guard/Forward, Kevin Durant. How good is this move by Gatorade? well, listen to what Durant’s statement was after he signed the contract,

“Gatorade has been part of my game for a long time and I am excited that I will now officially be part of their team. Not only is it an honor to follow in the footsteps of great Gatorade athletes like Michael Jordan, Kevin Garnett and Dwyane [sic] Wade, but just as important is Gatorade’s commitment to sports performance. It’s a big transition from college to the demanding pro basketball season so having Gatorade by my side will help me perform my best.”

I don’t care if that statement was written by someone else (which it probably was), it is marketing gold. Could you sound more wholesome, professional, or respectful than that? That is the kind of statement that will make mom’s spend their money on Gatorade for their kids; the kind of statement that will earn Durant big endorsement dollars in the future.

Durant is the first NBA rookie to ever endorse Gatorade, and one of three current NBA players (along with the afore mentioned Kevin Garnett and Dwayne Wade) to endorse the product. This along with Durant’s other endorsements, Nike, Upper Deck, and EA Sports (the commercials with Durant and Gilbert Arenas were pretty good), Durant looks like a star that is quickly on the rise.

Durant is represented by Aaron Goodwin of Goodwin Management Group. His website and contact information can be found here.

Must…get…Gatorade…NOW! Sounds like Durant and his advisors are pushing all the right buttons early on…now if they can get Seattle to keep the team there. I for one would love to see OK-City get a squad, but not at the expense of Expressoville.

  2. great move by Durant and his team and I also liked the EA Sports commercial with Arenas.

  3. Troy says:

This works out great for KD. Not only is Durant getting some cha-ching $$$ from it, but also benefiting from “following the footsteps” of basketball’s past and present stars.

Rumor has it, when KD was approached by Adidas to sign with them.. He said Ill pass.. Ive been wearing Nike since I was a kid.. Now that was impressive..
