Sports. Bombarded by politics before the election
Apparently there’s an election coming up. Who knew?
Before I say anything else, please, regardless of who you vote for, get out and vote on Tuesday. I’m not going to hunt you down like a celebrity, you aren’t going to get a cool t-shirt, you’re just going to get the satisfaction of knowing you had a part in what is arguably the most historical election in the history of U.S. politics.
That all being said, John McCain and Barack Obama will be on Monday Night Football pandering for your votes! And who is the hard-hitting, well respected journalist doing those interviews?
One hint…”Rumblin, Bumblin, Stumblin“. Yes, its Chris Berman! (Was Emmitt Smith not available?) Cause nothing says political and journalistic credibility like Chris Berman. If he gives a nickname to either senator, or does some baseball home run reference, I’m hunting him down in Bristol. Details of the appearance from ProFootballTalk,
In the final hours before the polls open on Tuesday, Barack Obama and John McCain will make a final appeal to football fans.
ESPN has announced that both Obama and McCain will be interviewed during halftime of the Monday Night Football game between the Redskins and Steelers.
Chris Berman will interview both candidates separately. The interviews will be taped during the day on Monday and will air at halftime.
This isn’t the first time ESPN has interviewed Obama and McCain; Obama appeared with Stuart Scott in August and McCain was interviewed by Bob Ley in September.
And in other political news, LeBron James and Jay-Z decided to put on a concert to raise voting awareness and rally votes for Senator Barack Obama. Details from XXL,
Jay-Z and Cleveland Cavalier forward Lebron James threw a rally for Democratic Presidential nominee Barack Obama at The Q in Cleveland last night (10/29).
Though Hov performed for the capacity crowd, he stressed the importance of next Tuesday’s election and encouraged the audience to beat long lines by voting early.
James, who was introduced by Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson, encouraged the crowd to follow his lead. “Nov. 4 is the most important day of our lives,” James stressed.
The rally marked the second and third time James and Jay campaigned for Obama, respectively. Well over 20,000 people attended The Q rally.
So, in short, election day is November 4th and sports and major sports figures are trying to do their part to get you and Joe the Plumber out to vote. You don’t want to disappoint them, right?
