Steelers live blog: Steelers vs. Seahawks

| October 7, 2007 More

You know the deal, check back often, or read it later.

1:01: It is Pittsburgh. In October. it is 81 degrees. Something is not right.

1:01: Joe Buck just said Steelers kicker Jeff Reed has the biggest legs of any kicker in NFL history. Someone has been doing their homework.

1:29: There has been a lot of punting back in forth in this game. Very exciting. I guess I should be happy that Hasselbeck hasn’t thrown a 70 yard TD pass yet.

1:35: A punt.

1:37: The first quarter is over. The score is 0-0. The Punters have been getting work.

1:52: More punting. Roethlisberger is getting pissed. The O-line is giving him decent protection, but the receivers aren’t open often, and Parker and the running game? yeah, not so much.

2:01: Finally! Najeh Davenport breaks like 3 tackles on a 2nd & 19, and runs for 40 something yards. We are now in field goal range, which means we’ll be able to win the game 3-0, the way th game is going.

2:07: Roethlisberger to Heath Miller. TD. Thank goodness. Nice throw by Ben (Miller ran a post and Roethlisberger threw it before Heath broke into the route)

2:13: My goodness. The Steelers defense that played so well the entire first half is getting gashed here in the last 2 minutes of the half. Seattle has had gains of 30 and about 25 and a roughing the passer penalty. Seattle should at least get a field goal out of this now, and there was no good reason for it.

2:15: HA! spoke too soon. Ike Taylor picked off Hasselbeck in the end zone. Steelers go into the half with a 7-0 lead. It has been a pretty uneventful half except for Davenport’s run and the TD pass. Both defenses have played very well. There are definitely a lot of frustrated Seahawks in the locker room right now (Especially when there are 5 Steelers starters not playing)

2:32: Steelers offense has come out decently in the second half (although a 33 yard Willie Parker run was just negated). Hopefully they can continue to keep some of the momentum they got at the end of the first half.

2:36: Another long gain (a dump off to Davenport. Ha! Davenport? Dump? I made a funny) that was negated by a Heath Miller hold that wasn’t really a hold. Seattle is getting some breaks here, or we would be looking at 10-0 or maybe 14-0.

2:44: Obligatory Mike Tomlin haircut joke.

2:47: Davenport 1 yard TD. After Willie Parker ran it down to the 1 (a horrible call by the line judge a TD? someone needs to go read their rule book about the new rule with the ball having to be inside the pylon…Roethlisberger was 6/6 73 yards on the drive. Very sharp sir, very sharp indeed) 14-0 Steelers

3:05: Momentum. The Steelers offense has a lot of it right now. Seattle’s defense even when they slow us down isn’t stopping us at the moment. As the third quarter comes to a close, its 14-0 Steelers. I figure if we can get a field goal on this drive this game will be a wrap.

3:09: Roethlisberger is 12for his last 12. If this was basketball this would be analogous to a basketball player scoring like 15 points in a quarter or something…Ben is looking nice.

3:13: Gashes. Willie is starting to get some bigger holes now (The O-line is playing really well, by the way). First and goal for Pittsburgh….

3:14: TD Pittsburgh, Davenport walked in. The O-Line needs to get a lot of credit. They’re playing very, very well.

3:21: You know, if the Steelers weren’t playing the Seahawks, I’d feel bad for Matt Hasselbeck. I’m not sure, but I think I may have seen him crying on the sidelines. Another Seattle punt.

3:25: Parker is over 100 yards. It just goes to show how dominant the Steelers have been in the second half…Parker only had about 20 yards in the first half. The holes the line has opened up in the second half are continually getting bigger. (Lets not forget the yardage Davenport has racked up as well)

3:42: We are definitely in “formalities” mode. Charlie Batch is in, this one is over. 21-0 is the score. An excellent game by the defense, and a good game by the offense (especially in the second half). The Steelers are now 4-1, and I have to think we’re one of the three best teams in the AFC (Patriots & Colts, obviously).

Looks like this game isn’t fixed; when they played in the Superbowl, it looked like it was. These teams are well matched. If they played each other 10 times, the Steelers might win 6.
