The Pittsburgh Steelers are the best team in football

…in terms of local market brand strength.

From the Pittsburgh Tribune Review,

The franchise was named the strongest team brand in its local market compared with scores of other professional sports teams across the country in a new consumer survey, the 2007 Turnkey Team Brand Index.

The Steelers ranked first among 122 team brands in the National Football League, the National Basketball Association, the National Hockey League and Major League Baseball in home-market strength.

A total of 12,000 sports fans in 47 markets nationwide participated in the online survey by Turnkey Sports & Entertainment, a New Jersey-based market research and executive search and recruiting firm.

For the last 75 years, the Steelers have embodied a blue collar, hard-work, mentality.  It’s been a mentality that has always resonated with Steelers fans (even those that aren’t blue collar).  Pittsburgh is, and always will be a football town, and things like this survey just seem to solidify that fact.

In other, actual football news…did you see that game yesterday? Oh my goodness! I think Steve McNair was crying on the sideline.  James Harrison’s stat line looked like the stat line for a whole team…9 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 1 interception, and 2 forced fumbles.  Great win for the Steelers, who take on the 4th place 3rd place 2nd place (add your own “I can’t believe this is happening” cliche ) Cleveland Browns on Sunday.  Looks like Browns coach Romeo Crennel inadvertently made a pretty good decision when he got rid of Charlie Frye after one start this season.

Ah, yes. In terms of the claim that I made as the title of this post.  Let me just go on record now and say, that on December 5th, we’re going to beat the Patriots.  I’ll save the reasoning for another day.
