In a move that will probably excite even the most hardcore football fan, the NFL has signed a new spokesperson to help promote the NFL brand (as if it needs help?)

Sports Illustrated swimsuit/Victoria Secret Angel model Marisa Miller is the newest spokesperson for the 2010-2011 NFL season, according to THR.

Miller’s primary duty as official NFL spokesperson? Promote special NFL events, including the NFL’s now annual game in London, which will be played by the San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos.  That game will be played on October 31st.

“I’m so excited to have this incredible opportunity to partner with the NFL,” Miller says. “I’ve grown up watching football my whole life.”

The NFL will have Miller appear in various print and commercial ads as a part of her job duties as NFL spokesperson.

Miller can now add the NFL to an already impressive resume.  As I mentioned earlier, she has strong ties to the Victoria Secret brand (she was one of their original “Angels”), and she also has endorsement deals with Harley Davidson and Captain Morgan.  And who can forget her fairly recent commercial for the Guitar Hero video game?

My first thought to this news? Why? The NFL hardly needs Marisa Miller, as great as she is, to help promote their brand; they already have a stranglehold on the American public (just look at the NFL’s ratings versus playoff baseball over the last week).  Of course, as I thought about it some more, I said…

Why Not?

Below, Miller’s new commercial for Captain Morgan’s Rum.  I doubt this is what the NFL has in store for Miller, but at the very least it shows that she’s clearly willing to put forth a lot of effort into her endorsement deals.
