Searching for a new facet to social media? The WWE just created one for you.
World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) has now established investor-oriented channels on various major social media networks including Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
Yes, you did read that right. No longer are investors either not getting any news, or getting it through a periodic mailer, or through an RSS feed from a website…now you can receive investor information while checking Twitter’s trending topics.
The objective of this initiative, which is part of our global communications program, is to facilitate a more comprehensive understanding of WWE’s strategy, operations, performance and customers. “Our perspective is that social media represents a fundamental shift in the way we communicate. We believe that effective communication with investors and analysts includes the use of social media that is focused on that community,” stated George Barrios, Chief Financial Officer. The WWE already does a good job on utilizing social media with over 1.3 million on its primary twitter account, and over 28 million followers across the accounts of their numerous personalities. They also have more than 72 million fans across their various Facebook accounts, and over one billion videos viewed on YouTube. That being said, financial information is a completely different animal than a “Royal Rumble” recap — although the WWE is hoping to replicate the same process of information distribution with the hardcore investor, that they’ve already established with the hardcore fan.
